The snap, taken by the Princess of Wales at Balmoral in the weeks before her death, shows the former monarch on a sofa with the young royals all smiles next to their beloved ‘Gan Gan’.
The Royal Family will be marking a poignant anniversary today – what would have been the birthday of the late Queen.
She was born on this day 98 years ago on April 21, 1926, and no doubt she will be firmly in the minds of her royal relatives, who will cherish their memories with her. To mark the anniversary last year, which was the first time her birthday had been marked since her death, a special never-before-seen photo of her and some of youngest relatives, taken by the Princess of Wales was released.
On the sofa next to her is her oldest great-grandchild Savannah Phillips, the eldest daughter of Peter Phillips, as well as Mia Tindall, who cradles her baby brother Lucas. Behind them stands Lena Tindall, the middle child of Zara and Mike Tindall, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Isla Phillips and Prince Louis.
Standing tall at the back are the Queen’s youngest grandchildren Lady Louise Windsor and James, the Earl of Wessex – the son and daughter of Edward and Sophie, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. One of the great-grandchildren who are missing from the touching moment with the late Queen is Princess Beatrice’s child Sienna. But royal fans have still spotted Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi in the photo.
One wrote: “I saw Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi’s picture frame with her father Edo Mapelli Mozzi.” Another added: “We have yet to get any official photos or appearances of Sienna Mapelli Mozzi, but she can be seen with her father Edo in what looks like the throne room at St. James’s Palace after her Christening. Sienna was christened in the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace in April 2022.”

Last month, the picture was thrust back into the spotlight after a major picture agency claimed that the snap had been edited. Getty Images has said it was “digitally enhanced at source” and has added an editor’s note to the image, which was shared by Kensington Palace in April 2023.
In a statement, the picture agency said: “Getty Images can confirm that in accordance with its editorial policy it has placed an editor’s note on a handout image stating the image has been digitally enhanced at source.” It was the second image to have been flagged as digitally manipulated after a photograph of Kate and her three children released for Mother’s Day last month.
