Prince William hints that Prince George might follow in his footsteps, much like his uncle Prince Harry. The Prince of Wales talked about his eldest son during a garden party at Buckingham Palace on May 21. Other royals, including Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Peter Phillips, and Zara Tindall, joined Will to support the event. In the meantime, Princess Kate remained out of the spotlight, receiving cancer treatment. Anyway, check out what the future King said about the little Prince!
Prince William: Is Prince George the Next Royal Pilot?
While chatting with Squadron Leader Chrissie Lacey, Prince William mentioned that George would love to swing by the base. The royal called his son a “potential pilot in the making,” as reported by Hello! Will’s comment comes after George appeared zealous during a visit to the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford last summer.
Back in July 2023, Kate and William took their kids on a private trip to the world’s largest military air show. There, Prince George and Prince Louis came alive by witnessing the aerial magic. A royal source told PEOPLE, “The family was all looking forward to the trip. The outing served as a school vacation treat for the kids. Let’s go further into the past when George made his debut at the Royal International Air Tattoo.
It was back in 2016 when Prince George was just two and a half years old. He was already turning heads with his knowledge of planes. Additionally, Flight Lieutenant Jim Hobkirk recalled George’s familiarity with helicopters, noting his use of the term “tail rotor.” Hobkirk added, “It was good to see his technical knowledge! Some training is going on early!”
Kate and William’s Connection to RAF
Prince William and Princess Kate have a longstanding connection with the RAF. The royal served as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot at RAF Valley in Anglesey, Wales, from 2010 to 2013. In addition, the duo holds RAF-related appointments. In August 2023, King Charles named Will the Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Valley.
Meanwhile, Kate got the honour of Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Coningsby. The honour meant the world for Kate as her grandfather, Captain Peter Middleton, once flew with Prince Philip. By the way, many royal members, including Prince Harry, trained as pilots. The Duke of Sussex served as a helicopter pilot in the British Army, flying missions in countries like Afghanistan. The Monarch awarded both William and Harry their flying wings.
Recently, the King appointed Prince William as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, a position closely tied to Harry. After quitting royal life in 2020, Harry lost his honorary military titles, which reverted to the crown. Will Prince George turn out to be a good pilot like his father and uncle? Only time will tell!
