Meghan Markle was ‘unsatisfied’ with Charles’ reply to letter so turned down important opportunity

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, was understood to have felt King Charles’ reply to her letter was ‘unsatisfactory’ when they discussed who made a remark about her and Prince Harry’s baby’s skin colour

Meghan Markle reportedly snubbed the Coronation invitation after finding King Charles’ response to her letter “unsatisfactory”. The Duchess of Sussex was seemingly unimpressed with the Royal Family’s reaction to the bombshell allegations made during her explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, insiders claim.

In the 2021 interview, Meghan and Harry made several serious accusations against ‘The Firm’, sparking global controversy. Among these was the claim that a Royal had raised concerns about their baby’s skin colour.

Subsequent reports suggest that Meghan wrote to Charles, then Prince of Wales, about the matter, revealing the identity of the individual who made the remark. However, Meghan allegedly found Charles’ reply lacking, contributing to her decision to decline attending the Coronation.

Sources speaking to The Telegraph indicated Meghan’s dissatisfaction with the response to her accusation, suggesting Charles was “raising concerns about unconscious bias”. It’s understood that Meghan’s letter came after Charles reached out, expressing his regret over the family rift.

The controversial Oprah interview aired one year after Harry and Meghan stepped back from Royal duties, citing various internal family conflicts. Meghan supposedly expressed discontent over unresolved bullying complaints, and the considerable stress of her Royal duties on her mental health.

The Queen seems to be the only one who reached out to the Duchess following her explosive interview with Oprah, in which it was revealed that there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his [Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born”.

This less than satisfying response is believed to be a major factor in Meghan’s decision to decline the invitation to the function, coinciding with Archie’s fourth birthday.

Harry went solo to the event then whisked off back to the US just a few hours later.

Only Charles reached out?

It is believed that the King was the only one who reached out to the Duchess following the Oprah Winfrey interview, where Oprah was informed there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his [Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born”.

A representative for the Sussexes confirmed at the time that the couple had received an official invitation from the palace to attend the Coronation. However, while Prince Harry made the journey from their California home to be present, Meghan Markle gave the event a miss.

It was suggested that Meghan’s absence could be due to her dissatisfaction with the King’s reaction to allegations she made during her Oprah Winfrey interview. In 2021, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex participated in a sensational interview with the American talk show host, where they made race-related accusations about the Royal family.

Meghan claimed there were ‘conversations’ and ‘concerns’ about the skin colour of the Sussexes’ baby. It later came to light that Meghan and Charles, who was the Prince of Wales at the time, exchanged letters regarding the incident.

It was suggested that Meghan’s dissatisfaction with the results of these letters was part of the reason she chose not to attend the Coronation. Insiders told The Telegraph that Meghan sent a letter explaining that while she did not intend to label the person involved as racist, she wanted to “raise concerns about unconscious bias” within the family.

The Duchess reportedly penned a letter in response to King Charles, who had expressed his sorrow over the family rift, according to the paper. However, she was allegedly ‘not satisfied’ with the King’s reply.

Prince William, when questioned about racism within the Royal Family during an outing, firmly stated that they are “not a racist family”. This came after Harry and Meghan’s explosive Oprah interview, which took place a year after their Royal duties were relinquished due to several internal disputes.

Meghan accused the institution of spreading “perpetuated falsehoods” about her and Harry during the interview.

She also revealed that her mental health had suffered as a result of her Royal duties, and that her concerns were not taken seriously.
