Prince Harry made a rare visit to London alone without his wife, for the Invictus Games, but didn’t see his father who had more important things…
The relationship between King Charles III and Prince Harry has been notably tense since the Duke of Sussex stepped back from his royal duties in 2020. This strain was evident during Prince Harry’s recent trip to the UK to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, an event he founded with the encouragement of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Despite being in London for this significant milestone, Prince Harry did not meet with King Charles III. Instead, the King was reported to have engaged in another ‘high-profile meeting’. He met with soccer icon David Beckham, who had discussions with the monarch about the King’s Foundation, Charles’s charitable initiative. So he had time for Beckham and not for his son… What else can be more hurtful than that from Harry’s perspective?
Why didn’t the King have time for his son?
During Prince Harry’s visit to the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games—a sports event for injured veterans and servicemen he helped launch with support from his brother and sister-in-law, Prince William and Kate Middleton—he extended an invitation to them as well as to King Charles III. However, none of the royal family members attended the event.
Addressing widespread speculation about a possible meeting between Prince Harry and King Charles III, a statement was released on behalf of Prince Harry. It clarified that a meeting would not occur due to the King’s packed schedule. “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether The Duke will meet with his father while in the U.K. this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program,” the statement explained. Prince Harry expressed understanding of his father’s commitments and expressed hope for a future opportunity to meet.
